Supernova and Supernova Remnant Pages on the WWW

This is a list of WWW pages related to supernovae and supernova remnants. Please send me information on other pages I can add to this list. I frequently check the other lists of SN pages on the WWW, but not always, so you should check there, too.

Supernova images can be found on several of the listed pages. Currently I am not cataloguing them separately since they are easily found in many of the links below. An excellent resource for finding supernova images and links to images is David Bishop's Bright Supernovae pages.

NEW LINKs, NEW URLs, and apparently DEAD LINKs are marked obviously. I'll probably keep the NEW designation on for a few weeks. DEAD LINKs will probably be removed after a few weeks.

I frequently check the aliveness of these links. If you find one that is dead, please send me mail.

• The CDS abstract server for Astronomy and Astrophysics (from Vol. 284, Apr 1994) and the Astronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series (from Vol. 103, Jan. 1994) allows access by keyword or author's name, as well as a chronological list. The good news is that you can see the abstracts about four weeks before they are published. The bad news is that the searches (which are fairly primitive) return the most recent article with a particular keyword, or by a particular author LAST.

• AstroWeb has a limited database since material must be submitted to them. Try their searchable database or this quick access form to their searchable database:

• Yahoo's Astronomy Page and their Novae and Supernovae Page links are predominantly submitted to them.
• Alta Vista uses a robot to find WWW sites. In order to filter out the unwanted items, it is best to go straight to their advanced search. Here is one use of their advanced search for supernova or supernova remnants.
• Magellan uses a robot to find WWW sites (in addition to accepting submissions) and so has an impressive list of sites. But not all sites found by this search will concern astronomy or astrophysics, and many scientifically interesting sites exclude robots. Search for supernova or supernova remnants.

• Starting Point's MetaSearch. Their database has the results of robots and submissions. Once again, many institutions do not allow robots. This will take you to a page that lets you select from many different databases.
